Areas of Expertise

My domain of expertise is in Chemometric data analysis for agriculture and food applications, particularly on Visible, Near Infrared and Mid Infrared hyperspectral imaging. I have some experience teaching, and much more mentoring students in the subjects of Chemometrics (applied statistics for spectral analysis), optical sensors, new technologies in agriculture (including Precision Agriculture), image analysis and informatic tools for data and image analysis.

My motivation for teaching

I always loved learning. It has been a source of joy and refuge when I most needed it. Good teachers have an incredible life-long impact in the students they teach, they definitely had it in mine. Engaging teachers not only open the door for fascinating aspects of a discipline that students could have otherwise found pointless, boring, or terrifying but also, and most importantly, have the ability to instil a life-long desire for learning.

Teaching Philosophy

Teachers can make a big difference in people’s life. I have a great admiration for teaching as a role in society and I wish to take further part in it. I understand learning as the development of expertise, self-confidence, and skills. Regardless of technological and professional changes, the role of teachers is to facilitate this process for students.

The main goals that I want to cultivate as a teacher are to promote a growth mentality in students, a respectful and collaborative attitude, an interest in learning, and the self-confidence and skills to develop as happy, capable, balanced and life-long learning professionals that contribute meaningfully to society.

Lesson Plan

Lesson Plan Example

This sesion plan is based on a class I imparted in 2021 as Teaching Assistant within the Module BSEN40520 Optical Sensing Technology in UCD School of Biosystems and Food Engineering, under the direction of Prof. Aoife Gowen. This module was imparted as blended teaching, both face to face and online, to accomodate for COVID-19 restrictions. (Download lesson plan example)

Teaching Experience

Teaching Experience

I understand learning as the development of expertise, self-confidence, and skills. Regardless of technological and social changes, the role of teachers remains to facilitate this process for students. I have always been invested in teaching, tutoring and mentoring students. During my periods of international collaboration from 2010 to 2015, I had the opportunity to engage with students from different backgrounds and educational programs. Finally, in 2021, following my teaching training on the UCD Diploma in Creativity and Innovation in Education, I fully engaged in third level education teaching as a Module Assistant in the UCD School of Biosystems and Food Engineering. Tables 2 and 3 summarize my teaching and mentoring experience.
